WTO and Pakistan: 2005 and Beyond

Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industries (RCCI) and IPS jointly organized a seminar “WTO and Pakistan: 2005 and Beyond” on December 24.
IPS Executive Director Khalid Rahman, Chairman IPS Working Group on WTO Fasih Uddin, the former federal secretary and Chairman National Tariff Commission Masud Daher, Director Antidumping and Countervailing Khizar Hayat, President RCCI Najam Rehan and the Chairman RCCI Standing Committee on WTO Aman Ullah Khan, shared their knowledge and vision on different aspects and challenges posed by WTO with the participants of the seminar.
The speakers said that concerted efforts at all levels are needed to increase awareness on WTO and its agreements. Acquiring knowledge, developing expertise and polishing of skills are prerequisites to face the challenges coming in the wake of quota free regime and benefit from the opportunities it is offering. Almost all speakers emphasized that that Pakistan would face tough competition from China and India in the textile sector.
