‘US Policies Towards South-Asia After Post-Cold War’

IPS, in collaboration with Institute of Regional Studies, organized a session titled ‘US policies towards South-Asia after Post-Cold War’ on February 20, 2019

The session was addressed by Dr Akis Kalaitzidis, who is the author of US Foreign Policy: A Documentary and Reference Guide, and a professor of political science at the Department of Government, International Studies and Languages, University of Central Missouri, USA. He was visiting Islamabad to attend an international seminar organized earlier by IPS.

Delivering a detailed presentation on US policy for South-Asia, Dr Kalaitzidis was of the view that Afghanistan had become a graveyard for US and its allies. Even now President Trump and his administration were thinking only about themselves, ignoring the fact that Pakistan, too, had suffered significantly in this war on terror.

Speaking of Pakistan and India relations, Dr Akis said that in the past few years, India had come more ‘Americanized’, and the current leaderships of both US and India had somewhat a similar mindset. In addition, India also had a big market to offer which too is an attraction for US. He maintained that as long as Trump and Modi remain in power, the situation is not going to become any easier for Pakistan.
