Presentations on ‘Barriers and Drivers of Solar Prosumage’ to AEDB and GIZ

The team of IPS
Energy, Water and Climate Change program visited the headquarters of AEDB
(Alternative Energy Development Board), Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and
GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in Islamabad on
November 26 and December 8 & 3, 2020 respectively and held interactive
discussions on its recent study ‘Barriers and Drivers of Solar Prosumage: A
Case Study of Pakistan’.

AEDB was represented by Atif Shehzad, director Net-Metering and Solar Thermal
attended the presentation at the behest of AEDB where as on behalf of GIZ, the
discussion was participated by its technical advisors Muhammad Saeed and Asif
Fareed.

The Institute’s team, which was led by GM-IPS Naufil Shahrukh, and comprised
researchers Naila Saleh, Sara, Hamza Naeem and Wali Farooqui, delivered
insightful presentations on the topic, highlighting the status of renewable
distributed generation in Pakistan, demonstrating the current progress that has
taken place so far on net-metering in the country, and detailing the obstacles
hampering its growth in the country.

The participants endorsed the need of having an immediate solution to the
identified barriers for more efficient distributed generation in the country.
They also agreed to collaborate to the cause in a bid to ramp up the share of
renewable energy in Pakistan.
