Maritime Winter School – 2018

IPS, in collaboration with Maritime Study Forum (MSF) and National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), organized a five-day workshop titled ‘Maritime Winter School – 2018’ from December 23-27, 2018, at National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR), Karachi.

Comprising interactive sessions with senior experts along with exposure visits to a number of maritime sector organizations and coastal sites, the initiative aimed to assemble maritime researchers to facilitate exchange of information and dialogue, expertise and ideas on opportunities and challenges in the pursuit of exploring and promoting Pakistan’s maritime potential.

The workshop was attended by a number of experts and researchers working on concerning issues, representing various universities and think tanks across the country. The workshop participants shared with each other their research endeavors pertaining to the maritime sector and deliberated to devise a national maritime research agenda for the next year keeping in view the emerging policy and national needs.

The concluding ceremony of the five-day program, which was held on December 27, 2018, was addressed by Capt (r) Jamil Ahmed Khan, member, National Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary for Maritime Affairs as a keynote speaker, who stressed the country on the need of becoming a ‘Maritime Nation’, not only to develop and grow further but also to answer the challenges emerging in the future.
