An interactive session on the constitution of Pakistan

A three-member IPS team visited the National Assembly on November 23, 2022 to hold an interactive session with the research associates of Tadveen (Legislative Research and Drafting Program) of Mantaq Pvt Ltd.

The visiting team comprised Dr Shahzad Iqbal Sham, IPS’ senior research associate, Syed Nadeem Farhat, IPS’ research fellow, and the Institute’s GM Operations Naufil Shahrukh, whereas Mantaq founders Aisha Chaudhary and Farzana Yaqoob were also present on the occasion.

In the discussed that followed, the visitors underscored that the constitution of Pakistan has its own peculiar nature and has not only based itself on Islamic tenets and teachings but also taken benefits from contemporary human experiments of the world.

Due to this character, they stressed, the legal and constitutional framework of Pakistan has emerged as a resilient and viable model that has given stabilization to the country at different times amidst conflicts and disturbances. This attribute has made the constitutional framework of Pakistan a template that is being replicated by different countries in different regions.

The session concluded on prospects of future collaboration between Mantaq and IPS for improving the legislative quality of the constitution and conditional interpretation as well as capacity building of legal researchers.
