An evening in the honour of Professor Khurshid Ahmad

An evening in the honour of eminent economist, intellectual, statesman and patron-in-chief of IPS Professor Khurshid Ahmad was held in Karachi at Faran Club on March 23, 2022.

The event also introduced the recent series of books titled Armughan-e-Khurshid, based on the compilations of Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s lifelong works and speeches, and being published by IPS Press – the publishing arm of Institute of Policy Studies, Islamabad.

Presided over by Chairman IPS Khalid Rahman, the ceremony was addressed online by Professor Khurshid Ahmad, Dr Anis Ahmad, chairman, Rehmatul-lil-Alameen Authority and the younger brother of Prof Khurshid Ahmad, Prof Tanzeem Wasti, a close friend of Prof Khurshid Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmed Niazi, a well-known journalist from London, Dr Mohsin Ansari, president, Islamic Circle of North America from the US, whereas Dr Shahida Wizarat, dean, Institute of Business Management, Karachi, Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi, chairman, National Platform for Housing Research, Bashir Jan Mohammad, an eminent industrialist, and Dr Irfan Haider, vice chancellor, Zia ud Din University, Karachi, spoke about the personality of the distinguished scholar. The ceremony was moderated by senior TV anchor Aniq Ahmed, while the vote of thanks was delivered to the distinguished guests and participants by Nadeem Iqbal Advocate, general secretary, Faran Club.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Khurshid rued that Pakistan was continuing to suffer from an ideological struggle, as a section from within is deliberately trying to alter its ideological direction. He stressed on the need to set this course right while highlighting the role that everyone individually and collectively can play in this regard.

The other speakers commended the senior scholar for his services and also shed light on his book series Armughan-e-Khurshid.

Prof Dr Shahida Wizarat said that the work of Prof Khurshid Ahmad in the field of Islamic Economics is of critical importance as in today’s world, the Western countries are continuing to influence the economic as well as social and ideological values of developing countries.

Khalid Rahman maintained that the purpose of the life of Prof Khurshid Ahmed was only to serve Islam and Pakistan. He informed that a few more publications from the series of books, which is based on the speeches and writings of Prof Khurshid Ahmad, are also in the pipeline. He also revealed that these upcoming publications will be discussing some new topics including the political history of Pakistan while also throwing a light on how different governments from the recent past ran the state of affairs in the country.
