IPS Chairman Delivers Session at AHKNCRD Training Course on Local Government Systems
Dr. Khalid Rehman, Chairman, Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Islamabad, participated as a resource person at a five-day training course on “Local Government Systems – Challenges and Solutions,” organized by the Akhtar Hameed Khan National Centre for Rural Development (AHKNCRD), an attached department of the Establishment Division, Government of Pakistan.
The training course, held from August 03–07, 2026, at the AHKNCRD campus in Islamabad, brought together senior and mid-level officers and officials from government, non-governmental, and academic sectors from across the country, aimed at strengthening research and governance-related skills relevant to local administration and rural development.
On the concluding day of the course, Dr. Khalid Rehman delivered a session on “Socio-Political Bottlenecks in the Way of Impactful Local Governance,” addressing the structural, political, and institutional challenges that continue to impede effective local governance in Pakistan. The session was followed by an interactive discussion in which participants engaged directly with Dr. Rehman, raising questions and sharing perspectives drawn from their own professional and regional experiences.
