Ameena Sohail, Energy Lawyer and Regulatory Affairs Expert

Ameena Sohail is a distinguished legal professional with over two decades of experience in regulatory, corporate, and commercial law, particularly in the infrastructure, telecom, and energy sectors. She has served in key public policy and legal advisory roles, including as Member Legal and Head of the Legal Wing at the Ministry of IT & Telecom, and as Legal Advisor to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

A graduate of the International Islamic University and an alumna of the University of London, she has contributed extensively to Pakistan’s legal and regulatory frameworks. She played a pivotal role in the development and legislative process of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, from drafting to enactment, and was also a key contributor to the Personal Data Protection Bill, currently available on the Ministry of IT & Telecom’s website.

During her tenure at the Ministry (2014–2018), she supported major initiatives such as successive spectrum auctions, the formulation of the Telecom Policy 2015, and the advancement of national efforts in e-commerce, IT business facilitation, MoU vetting, and the establishment of business incubation centers.

Her work reflects a commitment to enhancing governance, strengthening legal compliance, and improving the delivery of infrastructure services in Pakistan, ensuring accessibility, efficiency, and adherence to the rule of law.
