IPS attends stakeholders’ workshop on sustainable nitrogen management

Naufil Shahrukh, GM Operations, Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) represented the Institute in a Stakeholders’ Workshop on Nitrogen Management and National Policies organized by the South Asian Nitrogen Hub in collaboration with the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on March 21, 2023, in Islamabad.

The aim of the workshop was to showcase a comprehensive analysis of various policies of Pakistan that have focused on nitrogen in one way or the other since its independence. Along with that, the objective was to promote sustainable nitrogen management.

The event was attended by eminent scientists, policymakers, progressive farmers, academicians, philanthropists, ecologists, government officials and fertilizer manufacturers.

SANH is a research collaboration involving multiple institutions and organizations working to improve nitrogen management in South Asia.

The report describes the essential measures and steps to effectively understand the nitrogen policy arena for Pakistan in the broader context of South Asia. The study also provides a comprehensive account of issues and challenges linked with nitrogen application, its management, and externalities in the form of pollution along with potential remedial measures.

The participants representing different stakeholders generated rich discussion during the workshop and provided suggestions to improve the policy framework to control nitrogen emissions.
