A roundtable session organized on June 21, 2011 with the representatives of Wifaqul-Madaris Al-Arabia to discuss different avenues for teachers training. Maulana Hanif Jalandhri, Secretary General of the Wifaq chaired the session while Professor Khurshid Ahmed addressed the participants. The other participants belonging to different Madrassas, International Islamic University and Ministry of Education included Prof. Habib-ur-Rahman Asim, Dr Muhammad Yousaf Faruqui, Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Dr. Muhammad Haneef, Maulana Zahoor Ahmed Alvi and Maulna Abdul Ghafar.

Prof. Khurshid Ahmed, while expressing his views on the occasion, stressed the need to adopt contemporary teaching strategies that might enable the students and teachers to play their effective role in society. Recognizing the important role of Madrassa in society, he urged that it is time to take stock of the situation with an open mind while remaining intact with the indigenous value framework and equip Madrassa to deal with the pressing challenges facing the Muslim world at present.

Maulana Hanif Jalandhari noted that keeping in view the changing world and the competitive education atmosphere there was a great need to learn and apply teaching strategies to cope with the challenges. He also felt the great need to organize teachers training workshops and sessions. He informed that the Wifaq is in the process of planning and implementing an integrated program of teachers’ training for its graduates.

Earlier Prof. Habib-ur-Rahaman came up with a proposed outline of the syllabus for teachers training with its duration and themes.

DG IPS Khalid Rahman informed the participants about the planned line of action for conducting the proposed short term and long-term programs and training sessions the educators. A committee was formed to take measures keeping in view the line of action agreed in the meeting. So far two meetings have been held on July 5, 2011 and August 1, 2011 respectively.
