Towards Expanded Regional Cooperation

Towards Expanded Regional Cooperation

Policy Perspectives, Volume 9 , Special issue on “China and SAARC” 2012

Abstract

[While SAARC cannot be declared as altogether inactive, its progress has indeed been slow and below mark in over two and a half decades of its existence. The organization can be made effective if the member states show the political will to use the forum for resolving ‘core issues’ instead of focusing merely on peripheral issues. New ideas need to be injected to revitalize the organization. Creation of a new special relationship with China will enhance SARRC’s overall prospects of regional cooperation. – Eds.]
