Two-member IPS delegation headed by DG and included Research Coordinator Saleem Zafar visited Sialkot and delivered a talk titled “Significance of Policy Research in National Development” at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI). The session was organized jointly by SCCI and Sialkot Thinkers’ Forum to orientate the business community with the usefulness of policy research and the importance of corporate-think tank liaison towards achieving national interests and objectives.
President Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry, and Vice President Adnan Sarwar Kapur co-chaired the session while senior leadership of SCCI participated keenly in Q&A/discussion session. They also praised IPS efforts and contributions in the field of policy research and promoting research environment in the country. Both the sides emphasized the need for more interactions and holding joint programs in the days to come. Concluding the session, Khawaja Zaka Uddin, CEO, Capital Sports, emphasized the importance of policy research in Pakistan for bringing a solid and positive change in country’s socio-economic sphere. While commending 30 years of consistent and valuable research carried out at IPS, he also urged the business community to patronize research in Pakistan.
During the visit, the delegation also held one-on-one meetings with Pervaiz Ahmed Khan, former Vice President SCCI and Executive member of Seerat Study Center, Sialkot; Khurram Anwar Khawaja and Khawar Anwar Khawaja, former presidents of SCCI; and Ch. M. Akram, CEO Chaudhry Trading Corporation;.
Asad Ijaz, Convener of Sialkot Thinkers’ Forum also coordinated a meeting with the members of Thinkers’ Forum. The two sides shared views on the issues of mutual interest.
