Relinquishing Power:A Bold Move by Hamas
This IPS Insight argues that Hamas’s decision to relinquish governance of Gaza in favor of a technocratic administration is a calculated political move intended to facilitate reconstruction, uphold the US-brokered peace framework, and shift responsibility for ending the conflict onto Israel and the United States, rather than a sign of surrender. It contends that if Israel continues to obstruct civilian governance and reconstruction despite Hamas’s withdrawal from administrative control, the international community will have to question Israel’s justifications for its military actions and occupation.
