About the Recent Issue:

With the arrival of first issue of year 2015, Policy Perspectives has entered into the 12th year of its publication.

The recent issue combines perspectives on some of the key global & regional topics of today and deliberations on some of the pressing issues concerning Pakistan’s own security and stability.

The issue brings forth five scholarly articles. The first two articles focus on China, the country’s emerging role in the global order and the set of reforms that the ruling Communist Party is undertaking since the new generation of leadership took over in early 2013.

Turkey’s foreign policy towards the Middle East, particularly in the wake of the developments of past three years in the region, and the shape of things to come in the years ahead, is discussed in the next article. Another article endeavors to discuss Europe’s policy towards the Muslim World, exploring the question whether the same has followed only the American lines or has there been any independent approach, too.

The last article on multilateral trade negotiations analyzes the opening provided after the Bali ministerial of WTO and the building scenarios in this connection.

There are two more contributions besides these articles in the issue. One thoroughly researched report explores the length and breadth of a fundamentally important issue: long-term peace and stability in Pakistan’s tribal areas beyond the ongoing military operation.

In the end, before the regular feature, the Summary of Dialogues at IPS, a written symposium brings together senior Pakistani experts’ views on the future scenarios in and around Afghanistan, and the regional implications, considering the drawdown of US/NATO forces by December 31, 2014 and also taking into account the new regime in the war-torn country.
