ABOUT THE BOOK

Since its beginning, the field of medical science has faced a number of ethical issues that have been debated extensively for many centuries. The rapid scientific growth in this field in modern times has generated several new questions related to ethics necessitating extraordinary efforts to address them through meaningful discussions and research. While many of these ethical issues are common all over the world yet the response to them is predominantly based on Western secular approach, which is generally insensitive to the socio-ethical values of the Muslim world comprising more than a billion people across the globe. Hence, there is a need for Muslim scholars and medical scientists to play their due role in addressing these issues through a knowledge discourse which is relevant to their own value-system and beneficial to the Muslim world.

Medical Ethics: An Islamic Perspective is an important addition to the Islamic literature on medical ethics. A well-researched treatise, it will be of great benefit and inspiration for the teachers and students of medical ethics.

The book has been introduced by eminent Islamic scholar Dr Anis Ahmad who is currently the vice chancellor of Riphah International University, Islamabad. The foreword has been contributed by Dr Aly A. Misha’l, former president, Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA).
