IPS research coordinator, Syed Nadeem Farhat visited China as part of a delegation of think tanks from Pakistan on the invitation from the China Center for Contemporary World Studies (CCCWS).
Apart from making a presentation in a seminar on current regional situation in the Middle East, he had the opportunity to interact with scholars and opinion makers in Beijing, Guangzhou and Urumqi.
While surveying the regional situation in the Middle East in the said presentation, he noted that the region had become a chessboard for the world powers where on one side United States of America was struggling to re-capture its loosening hold for ensuring security of Israel and control over energy resources and supplies and on the other hand Russia was willing to go to any extent to support its last proclaimed ally in the region, Syria.
He emphasized that if regional and extra-regional force will keep on ignoring the norms of international law and values of justice and fair play, whole region is bound to plunge back into further chaos and turmoil which may not remain limited to a specific state or region.
Besides this, the Pakistani delegation shared ideas and thoughts with Chinese scholars of China Institute of Contemporary International relations (CICIR) in Beijing, Sun Yat Sen and Jinan Universities in Guangzhou and officials of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee in Urumqi.
