Engr. Asad Mahmood, Energy and Sustainability Expert
Engr. Asad Mahmood is a highly accomplished expert in energy management systems, sustainable development, and climate policy. He is officially enlisted on the UNFCCC Roster of Experts and holds specialized expertise in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Integrated Energy Planning, and Renewable Energy Technologies. The Asian Productivity Organization has recognized his credentials by accrediting him as a Certified Trainer in Energy Efficiency and Green Productivity.
With a career marked by impactful contributions, he has played a leading role in developing Pakistan’s market for bio-fuel plantations and has been instrumental in the formulation of the Balochistan Climate Change Policy (BCCP). His efforts extended to designing a comprehensive implementation framework, including actionable plans to address regional environmental challenges.
He currently serves as a Senior Advisor and Decision Committee Member for the Project Development Facility (PDF) under UNIDO and provides ongoing consultancy to the Ministry of Climate Change. As a member of the Blue Carbon team, he is contributing to the development of Article 6 Preparedness and ITMOs (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes).
Asad Mahmood has also managed the Energy Conservation Fund, overseeing the allocation of over USD 3 million to support energy efficiency initiatives in both the public and private sectors. His extensive knowledge is supported by 15+ publications on energy efficiency and climate policy.
In recognition of his outstanding service and successful projects in the fields of energy and environment, he was honored with Pakistan’s highest civilian award, the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. His work continues to receive international recognition, contributing to the global discourse on sustainability, energy transition, and climate resilience.
