From Glaciers to Grids: Building Climate Resilience into Pakistan’s Energy Transition

This Insight by Faryal Qazi examines the growing intersection between climate risks and Pakistan’s energy transition. It explores the vulnerability of hydropower, transmission infrastructure and distributed energy systems to floods, landslides, extreme heat and changing hydrology. The analysis highlights the need to integrate climate resilience into energy planning, strengthen distributed solar and storage, modernize the grid, and connect climate, water, infrastructure and energy data with institutional decision-making. Importantly, it argues that Pakistan’s energy transition should be assessed not only by emissions reduction but also by its ability to withstand and recover from climate stress.
